Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I pay more for SplitFire Spark Plugs?

A: The key reasons: SplitFire patented split 'V' ground electrode helps deliver more complete combustion. Result: Maximum percentage of fuel is converted to combustion energy not partially burned exhaust, for performance only SplitFire can deliver.

Q: Why does SplitFire offer a 30-Day Money-Back Trial Period?

A: We want to remove any doubt whatsoever about how much more SplitFire can do than conventional spark plugs. If, within 30 days, you're not completely satisfied, just return the SplitFire plugs -- and you'll get your money back. Complete warranty details are available wherever SplitFire Spark Plugs are sold.

Q: Why can't I split my own spark plugs?

A: There are several reasons for not trying this yourself. First, splitting the ground electrode of many spark plugs could cause the ground electrode to develop large cracks that could lead to one "ear" of the electrode falling off into the cylinder.

Second, the ground electrode must be of the correct thickness. If the ground electrode is too thin, then the two "ears" would not transfer the proper amount of heat away. This could result in the build up of enough heat to cause the "ears" to be the source of ignition of the air/fuel mixture and could cause major damage to the engine.

Third, the split must be cut at the proper angle and depth or else the spark plug will not function as effectively as it should.

Fourth, if the split is cut too far off center, then one of the "ears" could be too thin to effectively transfer away heat. The result could be the same pre-ignition danger noted above.

Q: Will SplitFire Spark Plugs work with a "high performance" ignition system?

A: Yes. SplitFire Spark Plugs will work with any type of ignition system.

Q: How long will SplitFire Spark Plugs last?

A: SplitFire, Inc. guarantees that SplitFire Spark Plugs will meet or exceed your automotive or truck manufacturer's spark plug performance standards in a properly tuned automobile or truck with a non-modified engine for 36 months, regardless of mileage driven, or we will replace the spark plugs. (See our Warranty information sheet for full details of this limited warranty.)

Q: I have made modifications to my engine. What heat range plug should I use? How about a shorter or longer reach spark plug?

A: There are so many different engine modification possibilities that we are not able to tell you which specific spark plug to use. Follow the plug specifications recommended by your engine builder or consult the component(s) supplier/manufacturer(s) for their recommendations.

Q: Do I need to change my timing when I put SplitFire Spark Plugs in my engine?

A: No. Use the factory specifications. If you have made modifications to your engine, you should consult the component manufacturer's specifications

Q: Are SplitFire Spark Plugs hotter than normal plugs?

A: No. A SplitFire Spark Plug has an unblocked flame kernel, not a hotter one.

Q: Are SplitFire Spark Plugs pre-gapped?

A: No. The plastic cap that is put on the end of SplitFire Spark Plugs is there to protect the ground electrode from getting damaged during shipping -- not to keep a set gap. One SplitFire Spark Plug can fit various engines with each requiring different gap settings.

To gap SplitFire Spark Plugs, use a flat or round wire gauge. Don't use a graduated scale gauge, they will result in one "ear" of the ground electrode being lower that the other one. Make sure the wire gauge is wide enough to gap both "ears" of the SplitFire Spark Plugs.

Q: Do I have to use SplitFire Dual-Mag Wire Sets with SplitFire Spark Plugs together to have either function properly?

A: While we recommend using these premium products together, you may use them in combination with any other spark plug or wire set.
